For the month of October I’ve dubbed it Scaretober in which I will be blogging every day in October. No, it’s not just random blogs in October but specifically scary movies movies. I’m definitely not one of those girls that enjoys scary movies by any means in fact this is a HUGE challenge for me since I’m such a wimp when it comes down to it. Some of the movies reviewed will be super scary and others will just be 90’s cheesy scary compared to today’s standards. There will be a few days during this month that I will be putting up more than one posts, because sometimes you can’t hold any awesome back when it comes to the blog.
Today’s movie is Rosemary’s Baby
This movie stars Mia Farrow as Rosemary. Rosemary and Guy are newlyweds who have just bought their first apartment, when they tell a close family friend Hutch about the place, he tells them that he has heard about the suicides and dead infants found in the building. Soon after they move into their apartment Rosemary makes friends with Teresa, a woman who lives with an elderly couple the Castevets across the hall from her. That night Teresa is found dead and though Mrs. Castevet is torn up about the death she is determined to be a good neighbor and be their friend. Soon Guy who has been a struggling actor for sometime gets a call out of the blue that he is now the lead actor in a play he auditioned for since the other actor had to drop out due to becoming blind. Guy begins to become close to the Castevets and spends more time with them and his career than with Rosemary. Rosemary begins to feel neglected and one night Guy is determined to make it up to her, so he agrees to start trying to have kids with her. It is that night that Rosemary is drugged and goes through a rather strange dreamlike ceremony. When she awakens Guy insists that nothing happened other than that they have begun trying to have kids. Weeks later Rosemary goes to the doctor and he tells her that she is pregnant. She is overjoyed and is quickly convinced by the Castevits to switch to a more reputable doctor than the one she went to. After that Mrs. Castevit begins making Rosemary vitamin drinks as recommended by her doctor and when an old friend comes to see her he is alarmed by her ghastly appearance. He becomes so worried about her appearance that he asks to meet her the next day with information, but before their meeting he falls into a coma. Rosemary begins to notice that she has not seen her old friends in a long time and no longer is going out, so she decides to throw a party . At the party her old friends are shocked by her ghastly appearance and try to get her to see another doctor instead of the one recommended by the Castevits. A few weeks later Rosemary’s friend dies and she is late to the funeral but when she gets there she is given a book and a message from him. Rosemary takes the book home and begins to read all about witches and covens, when her husband Guy comes home to find this he is alarmed and worried for her. Through her reading Rosemary discovers that Guy might be apart of the coven and have used them to get ahead in his career. She tries to run away from everyone and tell an old friend, but everyone finds her and all this worrying has thrown her into labor. Rosemary gives birth to her baby but she is told that he died in childbirth. One night she follows her husband through a secret closet and walks into a coven meeting and finds that her baby is the son of Satan. She is overwhelmed by everything, but when she hears her child crying she can’t help but rock him to sleep.
This is another movie that I hate how it ends. Mia Farrow’s bone chilling performance in this is amazing and I nearly had to stop the movie in the middle to catch my breath and calm my heart rate, but I didn’t. I wish that there was more of an ending to the story but there isn’t. I will be back soon with another Scaretober post. I hope that you have been enjoying this series as much as I have.
