Book Review: The Fault in our stars

I’m back once again with yet another book review. There will be more real posts coming soon. This time I finished reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. If you have been here a while you will know about my love/hate relationship with John Green books as demonstrated here, here and here. I had high expectations for this book since I had kept hearing about how amazing it was from book bloggers, booktubers, and even several people I knew in real life. I finally broke down and borrowed it from the library when my boss would not shut up about the book/movie. I have yet to watch the movie yet, since there may or may not be something wrong with my boss’s copy of the dvd.

Hazel Grace Lancaster is actively fighting the cancer that started in her thyroids and have continued to her lungs. It is on a regular meeting of the cancer support group that Hazel meets Augustus Waters. He is a cancer survivor with only one leg. Augustus was at that particular meeting to support his friend, Issac who is about to lose his eyesight due to ocular cancer. Hazel and Augustus start to hang out on a regular basis and try to be supportive of Issac after his girlfriend breaks up with him before his ocular surgery. Hazel gets Augustus to read her favorite book An Imperial Affliction. Augustus is as frustrated by the ending as Hazel is and reaches out to the author, Peter Van Houten for an explanation. When Peter refuses to write them an answer, but says that he will explain the ending to them in person if they are ever in Amsterdam. Augustus decides to ask an organization called “The Genies” to grant him a trip to visit Peter Van Houten. Before the trip, Hazel gets a really bad infection that puts her in the hospital for a few days, it is also during this time that Augustus gets some bad news.

As promised I won’t spoil the ending  of the book, this was one of the sadder books that John Green has written. I did enjoy this book more than I expected to. I’m looking forward to his new book which is expected to release within the next couple of months. Let me know if you have read this book or any of John Green’s books and what you thought. I’ll be back soon with another post 🙂
