I’m back this time with a book to movie adaptation. There will be quite a few of these coming in the next month or so. Be prepared and brace yourselves for all these movies. This review is going to be about Ava DurVernay’s adaptation of Madeline L’Engle ‘s A Wrinkle in Time. In case you didn’t read my review on the book, which I read earlier this year, you can read it here.
I immediately knew that I was going to see this movie after reading the book besides it has an all-star cast for Disney, which means it didn’t come cheap. I mean Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mndy Kaling, Chris Pine, Michael Pena, Rowan Blanchard, and I could go on. Not to mention the new faces that we are being introduced to in this movie.
As I said you can refer to my book review for a synopsis of the book/ movie. In short though I overall loved the movie and thought it was great in many ways. It did fall short in some ways though. I was disappointed about the parts that were left out because it would have lead in other directions and other movies. I was also disappointed that the wrinkle was never explained in the movie and only in the trailer, I found that to be a critical element to the story and the understanding of how Mr. Murray disappears so quickly. Also I was disappointed that the IT was not further explained and how it grabbed a hold of Charles Wallace in an instant and not anyone else.
It is a great movie don’t get me wrong I just found a few hangups with the movie that didn’t translate from the book. I would recommend that you give it a watch if not in theaters then when it comes out on DVD. This isn’t a movie I would recommend you take young kids too though because I think the not understanding of the IT and not being able to really see IT would scare them.
If you saw the movie or read the book let me know your thoughts. Thanks for continuing to read along here:) I promise that I will be back soon with another post. Let me know what other movies you would like me to review, I would love to hear from you. See you soon!
