Movie Review: Tin Man

The Syfy Channel did an updated version of the Wizard of Oz starring Zooey Deschanel and Richard Dreyfuss. In this version of the Wizard of Oz entitled Tin Man Zooey Deschanel plays a small town waitress named D.G. (you never find out what D.G. actually stands for but are lead to believe that it is Dorothy Gale from the original movie) who through a crazy turn of events lands in O.Z. Of course while she is in O.Z. figuring out why she was sent there she meets a lion, a tin man, the scarecrow, and the Wizard himself. In this story the movie does not end with D.G. waking up back her in own bed and nothing ever happened, but has a different twist which I’ll do the courtesy and pleasure of not telling you the ending. The movie makes many references to the its predecessor Wizard of Oz, but also lets you imagine the world if this were to happen in real life. Much like Syfy’s Alice  I recommend the movie for the adventurous and wandering science fiction fanatic who is not going to get stuck on the details of the classic.

Note: Tin Man has no relation to Wicked in anyway other than that they are both takes on L. Frank Baum’s Wizard of Oz.
