Belly has an unforgettable summer in this stunning start to the Summer I Turned Pretty series from the New York Times bestselling author of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (now a major motion picture!), Jenny Han.
Some summers are just destined to be pretty.
Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

Hey!
We’re down to the final days of 2020 and that’s finally a relief after the crazy year that it has been. In an upcoming posts I will talk about my new resolutions, hopes and goals for the coming year as well as sharing several other things.

Right now though, let’s get back to the review that you are here for. If you have been following the blog for a while you know that I read Jenny Han’s To all the Boys I ever loved series back in 2018. I was on such a reading high back then. I recently found the first book in Jenny Han’s other series The Summer I turned pretty.

I love reading YA books because you can dive back into highschool and relive all those emotions all over again. I especially loved that this book is portrayed through a summer with flash backs from other summers. I loved that you really got to feel the summer and the enjoyment of a beach town and all that comes with it.

Let me know if you have read this book or if you have read any other books in Jenny Han’s repertoire. I can’t wait to tell you all about my goals and dreams for the upcoming year and other new things that maybe coming to the blog in the future. I can’t wait to really get back to blogging again. I hope that you’ll come back again to read more posts and see more things to come here in the future.

Hello!
I’m back with yet another book review. I’m excited that I finished all the current books in the DC Icons series. You can read my reviews of Wonderwoman, Batman, and Catwoman with the various links. There is rumors of a new book coming out later this year, but we’ll see it is 202 after all, haha!

In case you haven’t heard of the DC Icons series before it takes some big DC characters and has a story written by some YA authors. None of the stories are connected so you can read all of them or just one of them if you want. They are sold together in a set and also sold separately.

In the book, I just finished we walked through the life of Clark Kent AKA Superman just as he is discovering his powers and his place in the world. The book reads a bit like the beginning of Smallville (the show), but honestly I haven’t watched Smallville so I couldn’t properly tell you. You do get to meet Lana in the story, which is probably the only time other time I have heard her mentioned. You also have the introduction of Lex Luthor and Lois Lane into the story although neither are big characters in this story.

If you liked Superman as a character and wouldn’t mind reading another origin story or haven’t read a good origin story of Superman this is the book for you. If you are a huge fan of Smallville and know the origin story of Superman inside and out this may not be the book for you.

I hope to see you around here again for another post 🙂

PumpkinHeads

This format is designed to be read on color devices and cannot be read on black-and-white e-readers. In Pumpkinheads, beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author Rainbow Rowell and Eisner Award–winning artist Faith Erin Hicks have teamed up to create this tender and hilarious story about two irresistible teens discovering what it means to leave behind a place—and a person—with no regrets.
Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.
Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.
But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.
Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .
What if their last shift was an adventure?

Hey!
I’m back with yet another book review. I think it is safe to say that Matt has lead me down the graphic novel path and for the most part I am loving them and how quickly I can read them.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet this review is going to be about Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell. I heard about this book last year when it came out because who else would write a book about a pumpkin patch. Thankfully though it is a graphic novel, so there are wonderful illustrations to go along with the storytelling.

As you read from the synopsis, this book takes place on the last night of the pumpkin patch and the last time that Josiah and Deja will be working together at the patch, since they will be going away to college next year. I loved the impulsiveness of Deja for wanting Josiah to finally talk to his crush and will do whatever it takes to make it happen. I love Josiah’s laidback attitude, even though he really wants to be able to talk to his crush. I won’t spoil the ending for you because it would be took easy and the book is far too cute for you not to read and fall in love with the ending. I also love the way the fanciful way the book weaves itself through the pumpkin patch. I can’t believe how big this pumpkin patch is in the book, well maybe it’s because I’m from Hawaii and the patches I have been too haven’t had that many attractions.

I would highly recommend this book especially in fall to give you all the fall, warm cozy vibes. I would love to see Rainbow Rowell do another graphic novel like this. I hope that you enjoyed this post and will continue to come back for more posts like this. Someday I will get back to writing real posts about my life.

Confessions of a Hater

Mean girls are always the haters - Right?

Hailey Harper has always felt invisible. Now her dad has a new job and the family is moving to Hollywood. Just what Hailey needs: starting a new high school.

As she's packing, Hailey finds a journal that belonged to her older sister, Noel, who is away at college. Called "How to Be a Hater," it's full of info Hailey can really use. Has Hailey found the Bible of Coolness? Will it help her reinvent herself at her new school? Will her crush notice her? Will she and the other Invisibles dethrone the popular mean girls? After all, they deserve it. Don't they?

Caprice Crane's funny--and deeply felt--observations about high school, bullies, popularity, friendship, and romance will leave teens thinking...and talking.

Hello Everyone!
Are you still with me? Is anyone still out there? Are you still hanging in there for a bit more reviews and posts that I have lined up for you. I think I have a ton lined up for you. I might be changing the way I do posts in the future, but that is still something I am contemplating in my brain.

Today’s post is a review on Confessions of a Hater by Caprice Crane. Oh Lord, I have on my bookshelf for WAY too long. Sorry Caprice Crane! I bought this book when it first came out because I loved your novels, but then couldn’t get into it and got distracted by life and other novels but my goal this year was to conquer the books on my bookshelves and figure out if they are really necessary to keep. This also helped me to fulfill a challenge on the Creating & Co book map for the year. Yes, I am still on the first one even though people have already moved on to the second one *sigh*

I honestly could go on about this novel, but I won’t. This is Caprice Crane’s first foray into writing something aimed at a younger audience the rest of her books are usually aimed at the 20-30 year audience. Though I still love her writing style and had some laugh out loud moments with the book I feel as if I’m getting to old to read certain YA books or maybe its just that this book was published in 2013 and some things in the media and the way teenagers communicate has changed since then.

Either way I would still recommend this book if you are looking for a fun read or want to reminisce about high school. If you are looking for an older audience book that is still funny I would definitely recommend some of her other novels. Let’s not forget to check out Caprice Crane on other platforms and some of her other accolades that include screen writing for tv.

I hope that you enjoyed this review and look for more reviews and life posts coming soon.

Reads a bit like Birds of Prey the movie where Harley Quinn is narrating the story. ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 stars I also thought the sketchy style of art was an interesting twist as compared to the rest of the books.
