Welcome to the seventeenth day of October! I hope that your year has been going well. If you have been with me a while, you will know that every year I attempt to watch a lot of scary movies for October mostly to cure myself of my wariness of scary movies. When I started this series several years ago, I could barely sit through a scary movie to save my life. Now since doing this series I can say that I am much better. Last year, I decided to attempt to add books to this series. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up completing this series last year, but I have high hopes for this year 😉
On the seventeenth day, today’s movie is Chernobyl Diaries. This came as a Netflix recommendation, so that if you have been with me a while you will know that Netflix and I have a very strange relationship. So I will leave this review here.
Here’s a quick rundown of the movie. A group of friends is traveling through Europe and when the group stops in Ukraine one of the friends decide to that it would be fun to go on an extreme tour that would take them to a town very near Cherynobyl. The rest of the group reluctantly agrees to go, when they initially meet the tour guide he assures them that it is safe and shows them the radiation meter that he keeps and shows them that since they are only planning on the exposure should be low. After the group gets to the gate they are shown away, but the tour guide tells the group he found a secret entrance and that he’ll still take them on the tour. After the initial thrill of the tour wears off, things start to go awry with the van being damaged and the group being stranded overnight .
As promised I won’t spoil the ending for the movie for you in case you want to watch it. This movie rated really low on rotten tomatoes and had so much controversy regarding the handling of such a big event in world history. I thought the movie was a bit cheesy and a bit predictable although it did hit the horror thriller notes well. If you aren’t into a bit too predictable zombie movie, this movie isn’t for you.
Let me know if you have seen this movie and what you thought of it. I hope that you have been enjoying this series even though some of the movies have been bad. I hope that you will continue to stay tuned throughout the month to see what other posts I have planned. See you again soon!
