Scaretober-Movie Review: Scream 3

For the month of October I’ve dubbed it Scaretober in which I will be blogging every day in October. No, it’s not just random blogs in October but specifically scary movies movies. I’m definitely not one of those girls that enjoys scary movies by any means in fact this is a HUGE challenge for me since I’m such a wimp when it comes down to it. Some of the movies reviewed will be super scary and others will just be 90’s cheesy scary compared to today’s standards. There will be a few days during this month that I will be putting up more than one posts, because sometimes you can’t hold any awesome back when it comes to the blog.

Today’s movie is Scream 3

If you have not seen the Scream series before read my reviews on Scream and Scream 2. This movie begins with Cotton, formerly accused killer of Sidney’s mom and savior of Sidney, driving home. Cotton after last year has taken his exposure and used it to gain himself a radio show as well as a bit part in the movie Stab 3. Ghostface calls Cotton determined to once again torture Sidney because he can not seem to find her own his own. Cotton claims that he does not know where Sidney is, so Ghostface kills Cotton and his girlfriend leaving pictures of Sidney’s mom as his new signature. Sidney has managed to live a secluded life up in the Hollywood Hills with many security gates to make sure that she is safe, she even works as a crisis operator out of her home. Gale Weathers, news reporter, is called to advise on the case after her writings on the Woodsboro murders. She goes to visit the Hollywood set of Woodsboro because Hollywood is making yet another movie, Stab 3, based on the murders.  Gale runs into Dewey, who has been advising on the movie , and tells him what happens.  After a second murder occurs, Dewey is convinced to call Sidney and tell her what has been going on. Meanwhile, Sidney has been having nightmares about her mother’s death and about not coming to terms with the past and finds her way to the police station to help solve the murders anyway. When Sidney, Dewey, Gale, and the Hollywood police go to the lot where Stab 3 is being filmed and run into Randy’s sister who shows them a tape of Randy spouting off the rules of trilogies. Gale then goes through the studio’s archives and finds out that Sidney’s mom was for 2 years a horror film actress in Hollywood under a stage name. In the final scenes of the movie culminates with a party for the Stab 3 director, Roman at producer John Milton’s Hollywood mansion. It is there that the whole cast of Stab 3 is killed by Ghostface and that you find that Ghostface has been using a voice recorder device to warp his voice to sound like people. Roman claims to be Sidney’s half brother that her mother had rejected years earlier when he had confronted her in Woodsboro about this thus being the series of events that led up to this moment. Dewey kills Roman and Dewey, Gale, and Sidney begin their lives without Ghostface.

This movie aside from the start studded cast once again, left me hanging with questions that never get answered in the movie. Why did Sidney’s mom leave Hollywood? What really happened at the Hollywood party? Is Roman really Sidney’s half-brother? Why did Sidney’s mom reject Roman? Why doesn’t anyone in the movie use caller id or *69? As much as I would like to say that I would that this movie was scary and culminated the series with a nice bow, it didn’t. It left me with more questions than answers and frustrations with the series than jut border on annoying. I will be back later this month to conclude the Scream series. See you tomorrow with another review for Scaretober
