Scaretober-Movie Review: Teaching Mrs. Tingle

For the month of October I’ve dubbed it Scaretober in which I will be blogging every day in October. No, it’s not just random blogs in October but specifically scary movies movies. I’m definitely not one of those girls that enjoys scary movies by any means in fact this is a HUGE challenge for me since I’m such a wimp when it comes down to it. Some of the movies reviewed will be super scary and others will just be 90’s cheesy scary compared to today’s standards. There will be a few days during this month that I will be putting up more than one posts, because sometimes you can’t hold any awesome back when it comes to the blog.

Today’s movie is Teaching Mrs. Tingle

Teaching Mrs. Tingle has an all-star cast that includes the likes of Helen Mirren, Katie Holmes, and Barry Watson. Leigh Ann played by Katie Holmes is from a single parent home in the middle of nowhere and is just out of reach of the valedictorian spot at her high school. At the beginning of the movie, Leigh Ann and her classmates are turning in their final projects for history class the final and only class that will determine their class ranking. Leigh Ann worked countless hours putting together a journal of a teenage girl that suffered through the Salem Witch trials. Mrs. Tingle the history teacher is unimpressed by this and claims that Leigh Ann has taken the easy way out. Then again Mrs. Tingle grades the whole class harshly even the student who reconstructed a crossbow ( more on this later). Leigh Ann and her best friend, Jo Lynn are doing extra credit work in the gym when Luke, Barry Watson, comes in and claims to have a copy of the History final exam. He gives it to Leigh Ann who then stuffs it in her bag just when they hear footsteps and run out. They are caught by none other than Mrs. TIngle who tries to turn Leigh Ann in to the principal’s office. Leigh Ann, Jo Lynn, and Luke decide to confront Mrs. Tingle that night at her home and the confrontation turns into a hostage situation when Jo Lynn accidentally hits Mrs. Tingle with the crossbow. The crazy journey continues through two days and ends with Mrs. TIngle shooting the crossbow at  another student while the principal is watching. Leigh Ann gets her wish of being valedictorian, giving the valedictorian speech and getting out of her small town.

I thought this movie would be much scarier than it appeared to me and because of it I feel like I owe you an extra movie during this month. I was barely even scared at all during the movie and thought it seemed very Dawson’s Creek with Katie Holmes character trying to get rid of her past and be the squeaky clean girl and Barry Watson being the ever helpful guy that finally gets the girl in the end. Sorry that this review is a little late it was just too late to finish last night. I will have another great review for you up tomorrow!
