Welcome to the twenty-fourth day of October! I hope that your year has been going well. If you have been with me a while, you will know that every year I attempt to watch a lot of scary movies for October mostly to cure myself of my wariness of scary movies. When I started this series several years ago, I could barely sit through a scary movie to save my life. Now since doing this series I can say that I am much better. Last year, I decided to attempt to add books to this series. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up completing this series last year, but I have high hopes for this year 😉
On the twenty fourth day, today’s movie is The Ring. This movie came highly recommended by people as one of the scariest movies they saw in the early 2000s and it should definitely be on my watch list. Several people even recommended that watch the original Japanese version, which is on my list for possibly another year.
Here’s a quick rundown of the movie in case you haven’t heard of it:At the beginning of the movie 2 high school girls are sitting in a bedroom on a dark and stormy night discussion the urban legend about a video tape that after you see it you die in 7 days. One of the girls , Katie, admits to having watched the tape a week ago on a camping trip with her boyfriend. For a minute she laughs it off, but in the next few moments she is dead. A few weeks later at Katie’s funeral , Katie’s mom asks her sister, Rachel the reporter to investigate Katie’s death because it doesn’t make sense. While doing her research Katie comes across the video tape and also watches it and then begins to get worried that the urban legend is true.
As promised I won’t spoil the ending for the movie for you in case you want to watch it. There were parts of the movie that was creepy and definitely scary, but it wasn’t as creepy as it could have been. I’m told that there was a sequel as well as a book that the movie was based on. I would also be interested in seeing the original Japanese version to see how it compares.
Let me know if you have seen this movie and what you thought of it. I hope that you have been enjoying this series even though some of the movies have been bad. I hope that you will continue to stay tuned throughout the month to see what other posts I have planned. See you again soon!
