Scaretober:Movie Review-Carrie (2002)

scaretober 2020

Hello!
Welcome to the twenty-seventh day of October! I hope that your year has been going well. If you have been with me a while, you will know that every year I attempt to watch a lot of scary movies for October mostly to cure myself of my wariness of scary movies. When I started this series several years ago, I could barely sit through a scary movie to save my life. Now since doing this series I can say that I am much better. Last year, I decided to attempt to add books to this series. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up completing this series last year, but I have high hopes for this year 😉

Today’s movie was Carrie. This reimagining was done in 2002, if you are interested in hearing my thought on Carrie 1976, you can read it here. While I enjoyed the original movie it is always interesting to see how another generation sees the movie and does its own interpretation of it. I am also interested in seeing the 2013 version of the movie starring Chloe Grace Moretz.

The main story of Carrie is the same as before with Carrie being the strange outcast girl in high school with an overly strict religious mom. I won’t go through the whole story since you can read about it in my original review if you haven’t already seen the movie. The ending of this movie was quite a bit different from the first, which I think was meant to make the movie more of a feel good movie instead of a horror movie. There are still very horrible parts to the movie, but certain elements of this ending were considerably different than the original.

While I still enjoyed the story of Carrie and appreciated some of the pyrotechnics in the movie and other special effects. I found that the movie lost element of scariness when it was translated into color, since the original movie was in black and white also since the ending was considerably different I did think that took away from the horror factor of the movie. Overall it was good.

I hope that you are enjoyed this post. If you have seen this movie feel free to leave your thoughts on how it stacks up to the original. If you like scary movies feel free to check out some of the other movie reviews in this series and stay tuned for more in the last few days of October. See you soon!
