Movie Review: Funsize

12 / 31 / 138 / 13 / 18

I know that I have not done a movie review in a while I thought that I would do one for you today. I’m slowly getting more motivated to blog again and finding new blogs to read has also spurned my interest to once again change some things up in this blog design in the future. Let’s get back to the review though.

I found Fun size on Netflix and dropped it into my queue a while ago and had not got around to watching it until now when Netflix announced they were getting rid of just under 50 or so movies from its service. I’m pretty sure that this movie is still on there though, so check it out.

Fun Size stars Victoria Justice and Chelsea Handler as the only notable names in the movie. Victoria Justice plays 17 year old Wren, a senior in high school who is already planning on leaving her small town and going to NYU. Wren narrates the beginning of the movie explaining that her dad made it seem that life for him started when he went to NYU and that has always been the plan for her to go. Wren’s mom, Joy played by Chelsea Handler does not want Wren to go so far away to school and ever since her dad died several months earlier has been going through a strange grieving process in which at the moment means that she has taken on a 20 something boyfriend.
On Halloween Joy asks Wren to take her little brother, Albert trick o treating in the neighborhood while she is at a Halloween party. Wren agrees to take Albert trick o treating for a little while and then makes plans with her best friend April to escape to Aaron Reily’s Halloween party. Things are going as planned until Wren loses Albert in a haunted house. The rest of the film is Wren trying to find Albert all over town and the trouble that Albert gets into all over town. Don’t worry by the end of the film Wren finds Albert and they share a tender moment with their dad in the cemetery and Wren’s mom, Joy finally wakes up to the fact that she has 2 kids and that her 20 something boyfriend may not be the answer to her problems.
You will love this movie if you liked the Hangover and other comedies like it.I hope to see you again with another post!

Style: Kate Spade Debra

12 / 20 / 138 / 13 / 18

Recently I acquired a Kate Spade Debra planner. I had been using a raspberry personal metropol for the last 2 years. Let’s be real though I had only really been using it for the last year, the year before that I just carried it around pretending to use it and not really using it. This is the un-boxing of the Kate Spade planner and I have since moved in. I love it to pieces so far.

Hopefully through the end of the year I will have many more posts up for you. If you don’t find me here feel free to find me via any of my other social media connections. See you soon!

Thankful Heart

11 / 28 / 138 / 13 / 18

Hey!
Today I’m linking up with Lenora, Julie Ann, and Erika for an Thanksgiving Bloghop. I’m a little late, but better lat than never right?

I was tempted to write this post at work today, but decided that I wanted to do a rather comprehensive post. To begin with at the end of March, my co-worker challenged a group of friends to keep a gratitude journal every day for 1 month. Everyone kept a gratitude journal in their own way for at least a month. Since April I have been keeping the journal every day and today I’m going to highlight a few entries from each month.

April:
-April 12: my friend Ian being alive
-April 13: March of Dimes for Babies
-April 22: Watching Up on Poppy Hill

May:
-May 12: My mom for always being there
-May 18: My wonderful and crazy friends
-May 21: My dad

June:
-June 6: getting a brand new mattress
-June 16: Family brunch with my dad
-June 22: Living in an amazing place with views for days!

July:
-July 8: Hanging out and learning from an accomplished scholar
-July 18: Meeting the new head of school for the high school at work
-July 28: Being saved from a possible hurricane

August:
-August 9: Time in the mountains with friends
-August 19: new projects

September:
-September 2: giving to charity and running in Run or Dye with my mom
-September 21: Hearing my friend sing again
-September 22: seeing one of Sadako’s paper crane and meeting some of her family

October:
-October 9: Taking steps to my future
-October 13: my wonderful nephew’s 4th birthday
-October 31: Travels into history

November:
-November 2: For making through another year
-November 21: For feeling grateful every day

I can’t even begin to tell you how much some of these little accomplishments mean, but hopefully I will get the chance to tell you more about it someday. This project has made me remember that there is something to be thankful for every day not just on Thanksgiving. Hopefully I’ll see you with another blogpost soon!

Thankful Link Up

The Next Best Thing

The Next Best ThingThe Next Best Thing by Jennifer Weiner
Published by Atria Books on July 3, 2012
Pages: 389
Goodreads
three-half-stars

Blockbuster #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Weiner returns with an irresistible story about a young woman trying to make it in Hollywood…

Actors aren’t the only ones trying to make it in Hollywood.…At twenty-three, Ruth Saunders left her childhood home in Massachusetts and headed west with her seventy-year-old grandma in tow, hoping to make it as a screenwriter. Six years later, she hits the jackpot when she gets The Call: the sitcom she wrote, The Next Best Thing, has gotten the green light, and Ruthie’s going to be the showrunner. But her dreams of Hollywood happiness are threatened by demanding actors, number-crunching executives, an unrequited crush on her boss, and her grandmother’s impending nuptials.

Set against the fascinating backdrop of Los Angeles show business culture, with an insider’s ear for writer’s room showdowns and an eye for bad backstage behavior and set politics, Jennifer Weiner’s new novel is a rollicking ride on the Hollywood roller coaster, a heartfelt story about what it’s like for a young woman to love, and lose, in the land where dreams come true.

I keep saying that I should do more book reviews and yet that still has not happened yet. Work these past couple years have been absolutely insane, but I can’t complain. As you may know from some of my previous book reviews on Jennifer Weiner books is that she is one of my favorite authors, so I do apologize if this review is a little biased. This book was originally published sometime in 2012 and I have not had a chance to read it until recently.

I loved the fact that Jennifer Weiner used some of her own experiences working on State of Georgia an ABC Family show that starred Raven Symone. The show was short lived and like Ruth Saunders show only lasted until mid-season. Jennifer Weiner unlike many female authors really understand women and society as they are. She does not attempt to portray men as unequals to women as some female authors tend to do and I’m glad for that. I especially enjoyed that in this novel Ruth Saunders had to overcome a disability to find confidence and be her own heroine  and I think that is a resounding message throughout all of  Ms Weiner’s novels.

I hope that you will read this book when you get the chance and I will see you again in another great post!
